With many years of senior management experience in international
companies, and now with considerable consultancy experience,
PETER BROWN ASSOCIATES offers consultancy services throughout the
agricultural, horticultural, and commodities sectors. This includes
contracts formulation and evaluation; advice to, or obtaining information
for, law firms handling commodities disputes; acting as an Expert Witness
or Representative for parties in arbitration or mediation; the preparation
of submissions; crops and stocks evaluation; assessment of vessel
condition and cargo quality and condition (especially in respect of
malting barley and malt); advising banks of likely crop out-turn
financial positions of their farming clients; forensic investigations.
Among our clients are: Growers, Traders, Millers, Maltsters, Brewers,
Farmers Cooperatives, Land Agents, Food & Beverage Manufacturers;
Government Agencies, Bankers and Lawyers, in many countries.
Examples of assignments undertaken include:
- The preparation of new trading contracts for SACOTA (South Africa
Cereals & Oilseeds Trade Association) and a set of accompanying
arbitration rules, both of which were adopted and implemented in
2004. This was followed by the training by PETER BROWN ASSOCIATES
of local participants who were then listed to be available to be
appointed to arbitrate on domestic South African grain trade disputes.
- An EU / DfID assignment in MALAWI called for a study of the
storage and handling of the National Strategic Grain Reserves in
that country, and the writing of a report for the Malawian Ministry
of Agriculture. This was followed by an assessment of the quantity
of stocks then held in that country, and of their quality and
condition. We arranged and accompanied a high level inward mission
from Malawi to South Africa to introduce the Malawian delegation to
the practices and principals applied to grains storage and handling
in South Africa.
- On-going investigation of grain cargo losses on trans-shipment in
European ports.
- For an international maltster, examination throughout much of
Western Europe of storage and handling facilities used for malting
barley by their suppliers.
- Effecting introductions of UK malting barley exporters to
European maltsters.
